Course Overview

The OSHAcademy 30-Hour General Industry Safety and Health program is designed for workers with safety responsibilities who require greater depth and variety of training on workplace hazards. It develops practical understanding of hazard recognition, avoidance, control and prevention, together with workers’ rights, employer responsibilities and effective safety leadership.

Learning Outcomes

• Recognize common safety and health hazards in general industry workplaces.
• Apply the hierarchy of controls and appropriate preventive measures.
• Understand OSHA fundamentals, workers’ rights and employer responsibilities.
• Identify hazards involving PPE, falls, electricity, machinery, materials handling and ergonomics.
• Apply basic Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and hazard-control principles.
• Explain lockout/tagout, confined-space and emergency-planning requirements.
• Support effective safety supervision, leadership, accountability, recognition and training

Training Methodology

This instructor-leading training is delivered using presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise and group work.

You will have the opportunity to interact with our experienced facilitator who will bring professional and research expertise into their teaching.

Assessment

Each course includes learning activities and knowledge checks followed by an open-book final course exam. OSHAcademy states that examinations use multiple-choice questions and require a minimum score of 70% to pass.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive an OSHAcademy 30-Hour General Industry Safety and Health Program Certificate and Training Record Card.

IMPORTANT CREDENTIAL NOTE
OSHAcademy states that this program uses the same curriculum criteria for required, elective and optional topics and hours as the 30-Hour OSHA Outreach training. However, it does not issue the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) OSHA Outreach card.

Entry Requirements

  • No formal academic qualification is required.
  • Participants should have a basic understanding of workplace safety and health.
  • The course is particularly suitable for supervisors, managers, safety personnel, team leaders, and employees with safety responsibilities.
  • Participants should have sufficient English language proficiency to understand the course materials and complete the assessments.
  • Previous completion of an OSHA/OSHAcademy 10-Hour course is not required.
